Wenzhou has always been a city full of business opportunities and creative inspiration. With over 3,000 garment enterprises, it has built a powerful fashion industry. The region is home to 13 well-known Chinese trademarks, with 11 companies ranked among the top 100 in China's clothing sector, and two listed firms. Renowned brands such as Metersbonwe, Semir, Good News Birds, French Faction, Zhuangji, Chamonix, and Qiaodun have earned international recognition. After more than 20 years of development, Wenzhou men’s wear has established world-class equipment and skills, and its design and R&D network is at the forefront of global fashion.
For years, Wenzhou has been a key processing base for top global brands like Zegna, Armani, Versace, and Gucci. According to statistical data, in 2009, the turnover of the Wenzhou men's clothing market exceeded 200 billion yuan, supporting thousands of domestic and foreign first- and second-tier men’s clothing brands. Even during the financial crisis, the industry maintained a growth rate of 7.11% between January and August of this year, showcasing strong product and marketing advantages.
The Wenzhou Garment Development Building, opened in 2009, became a hub for creativity and innovation. It houses 200 manufacturing companies under one roof, offering comprehensive services including product displays, business meetings, design and development, training, and financial support. This new industrial cluster model has drawn attention from governments and fashion agencies worldwide, leading to strategic partnerships.
From November 28 to 30, the "2009 Italy-China (Wenzhou) Clothing Brand Trade Fair and Global High-End Men's Brand Order Conference" was held at the Wenzhou Garment Development Building. Over 20 top Italian menswear brands, led by Dr. Carmine Gelli, President of Northwest Italy, participated, bringing the latest trends and business opportunities. More than 200 domestic and foreign high-end men's brands and OEM enterprises engaged in seamless business cooperation.
This event marked a strategic move by Wenzhou to reposition itself on the global fashion map. The "Smile Project" aims to establish Wenzhou as a high-end men’s clothing manufacturing base in China. Zheng Chenai, President of the Wenzhou Garment Chamber of Commerce, emphasized that Wenzhou possesses unique resources in high-end men’s wear, with irreplaceable advantages.
The fair featured a 4,000-square-meter joint booth dedicated to showcasing over 100 high-end men’s manufacturing enterprises in Wenzhou. The order conference focused on practicality, effectiveness, and industry influence, with specialized negotiation areas for face-to-face exchanges between brands and manufacturers. International buyers were invited to visit local companies for potential OEM collaborations.
Zhang Qiongyao, Secretary-General of the Wenzhou Garment Chamber of Commerce, highlighted that the exhibition attracted a large number of visitors, exhibitors, and buyers, creating a positive cycle of interaction. She noted that the event not only showcased Wenzhou’s capabilities but also inspired self-improvement and brand enhancement.
Wenzhou’s garment industry is no longer just about manufacturing—it is evolving into a brand-driven community. The city is actively working towards becoming "China Men's City," gradually transforming its image and positioning itself as a leader in the global men's fashion industry.
