She explained that she regularly delivers her finished wicker products to Hanlin Arts & Crafts Co., Ltd. on a monthly basis. After passing both technical and quality inspections, she receives her monthly processing fee, which amounts to at least 30,000 yuan. In Cangshan County, Shandong Province, over 3,000 households like Jiao’s are now successfully earning a living through Liubian craftsmanship. The average annual income for these families is around 25,000 yuan, significantly improving their standard of living. Cangshan County has built its economic growth around the local resource of wicker weaving. By leveraging traditional techniques, the county has invested heavily in research and development, creating innovative products such as murals, bionic designs, and antique-style items. This has not only elevated the quality of traditional wicker goods but also expanded their market appeal. In the first half of this year alone, nearly 100 new design themes—ranging from the World Expo to the Asian Games—were introduced, resulting in over 2 million pieces of willow-based products being produced. To further strengthen the industry, representatives from processing households, technical experts, and farmer brokers travel to advanced regions like Liuzhou to learn and gain experience. They work closely with neighboring counties such as Lucheng and Heze Cao County, forming partnerships for sales and collaborating to create high-quality, refined products. These efforts have led to successful collaborations, allowing local producers to "borrow ships to sail the sea" and explore broader markets. Additionally, the county actively supports key Liubian companies by sending them to major international fairs like the Canton Fair, helping them expand their customer base globally. With the backing of government agencies and local cooperatives, a sustainable sales model has been established, including structures like “company + farmer” and “company + farmer + base.” Currently, there are 15 companies engaged in Liubian handicraft production, employing more than 1,000 people. Their products are sold across over 20 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions, as well as more than 30 countries and regions, including Europe, North America, and East Asia. Annual export orders exceed 30 million U.S. dollars, showcasing the growing global demand for Cangshan’s unique wicker craftsmanship.
