In recent years, Jiangxi Province has placed a strong emphasis on leveraging its abundant bamboo and rattan resources to drive the development of the local bamboo and rattan industry. By focusing on these natural assets, the province has made significant efforts to attract both domestic and foreign investment, promoting the export of bamboo and rattan products and transforming its resource advantages into economic opportunities. As a result, the bamboo and rattan industry has entered a period of rapid growth and development.
According to reports, the bamboo and rattan sector has become a key focus for county-level economic development in Jiangxi. The commerce department has actively supported the industry by promoting investment and encouraging business expansion. Since 2000, the province has successfully attracted 101 domestic and international investors to set up or expand their operations in the bamboo and rattan sector. Among them, 41 major projects with investments exceeding 50 million yuan were funded by out-of-province investors. The total planned investment reached 4.656 billion yuan, with actual investments amounting to 3.306 billion yuan.
Several large-scale projects have been launched in the industry. For instance, Zhejiang Anji Yafeng Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. invested 420 million yuan in Wanjia County to develop bamboo product manufacturing. Meanwhile, Fujian-based entrepreneur Zhang Hefeng invested 320 million yuan in Yongfeng County to establish a bamboo products enterprise. In Yifeng County, Jiangxi Kangdian Long Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. partnered with German companies SunnyBase and Elephant Company to invest 318 million yuan in a bamboo processing project.
Thanks to the combined efforts of the government and local enterprises, the bamboo and rattan industry in Jiangxi is thriving. The export value of bamboo and rattan products has shown consistent and robust growth. According to the Domestic Investment Promotion Office of Jiangxi’s Department of Commerce, the province's bamboo and rattan exports began to rise rapidly from 2006. At the start, the cumulative export value reached 147 million U.S. dollars, marking the beginning of a new era for the industry.
With continued investment, policy support, and growing international demand, the future of Jiangxi's bamboo and rattan industry looks promising, offering sustainable development opportunities for both the economy and local communities.
