In recent years, Jiangxi Province has been making a concerted effort to leverage its abundant bamboo and rattan resources, positioning the industry as a key driver for regional economic growth. By focusing on developing and expanding the bamboo and rattan sector, the province has not only attracted significant investment but also enhanced its export capabilities, transforming natural resource advantages into competitive industrial strengths. As a result, the bamboo and rattan industry has experienced rapid development, entering a high-growth phase.
According to reports, the bamboo and rattan industry has become a priority for county-level economic development in Jiangxi. The local commerce department has actively promoted investment in this sector, encouraging both domestic and foreign companies to participate. Since 2000, the province has successfully attracted 101 investors to establish or expand their operations in the bamboo and rattan industry. Among these, 41 projects involved investments of over 50 million yuan, with funds coming from outside the province. The total investment reached 4.656 billion yuan, while actual capital injected amounted to 3.306 billion yuan.
Several large-scale projects have emerged, showcasing the growing appeal of the sector. For instance, Zhejiang Anji Yafeng Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. invested 420 million yuan in a bamboo products factory in Wanjia County, while Fujian-based entrepreneur Zhang Hefeng poured 320 million yuan into a similar project in Yongfeng County. Additionally, Jiangxi Kangdian Long Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. partnered with German firms SunnyBase and Elephant Company to invest 318 million yuan in a bamboo processing project in Yifeng County.
Thanks to coordinated efforts between the government and private enterprises, the bamboo and rattan industry in Jiangxi is now thriving. The export value of its products has seen consistent and robust growth. According to the Domestic Investment Promotion Office under the Department of Commerce of Jiangxi Province, the province's bamboo and rattan exports began to rise significantly after 2006. In the early stages, the cumulative export value reached 147 million U.S. dollars, marking the beginning of a promising trend that continues to grow today.
