At the third session of the Second Council Meeting of the China Cotton Association held on March 25th, Wang Yanping, head of the Supply and Marketing Cooperative of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, revealed that the survey of cotton farmers in Xinjiang in late March showed that in 2011, Xinjiang expected to have a cotton planting area of ​​23 million mu, The growth rate was 5% in the previous year, of which the planting area in southern Xinjiang was generally flat and the northern area had a slight increase.

According to Wang Yanping’s analysis, the main reasons for the small increase in planting area include the large intercropping of fruit cotton in southern Xinjiang; the limited land in northern Xinjiang and a large part of grain area; cotton farmers believe that the cotton price volatility is too large and it provides subsidies relative to the government. The food, cotton cultivation is too risky.

Wang Yanping also estimated that the cotton planting time in Xinjiang in 2011 will be delayed by about 10 days.

Xinjiang is the largest cotton production province in China.
