Yiwu, known as the "Chinese Zipper Industry Base," has taken a significant step forward by introducing its first local industry standard for the national zipper sector—the Yiwu Zipper Industry Alliance Standard. This new benchmark is set to be implemented across hundreds of zipper companies in the region, marking a major milestone in improving the overall quality of Yiwu's zipper industry.
Since 2003, China has emerged as a global leader in zipper manufacturing, with over 90% of the world’s "Made in China" zippers produced domestically. Yiwu plays a central role in this industry, boasting more than 300 zipper manufacturers and an annual output exceeding 10 billion meters of zippers. As the world's largest zipper trading center, Yiwu attracts 80% of the country's zipper manufacturers, who have established sales outlets there. The city consistently ranks first in both production and sales within the domestic zipper industry.
Wu Xinxi, Secretary General of the Yiwu Zipper Industry Association, explained that without clear standards guiding production and trade, the industry faced challenges in raising product quality. The newly developed Yiwu Zipper League Standard addresses these issues by clarifying specifications such as zipper size and establishing a comprehensive database to support consistent quality.
According to Wu, the standard has been reviewed by numerous domestic experts and is considered superior to existing national standards, even aligning with international benchmarks. Some aspects of the standard exceed global levels. It integrates advanced metrics from international standards like Germany’s DIN and the UK’s BS, while placing a strong emphasis on environmental protection, sustainability, and safety. These elements are particularly relevant in European markets, where eco-friendly and certified products are highly valued.
