Zhongshan clothing export 26,021 months 11 batches of EU into the largest export

After weathering the global financial crisis, Zhongshan's garment exports made a strong comeback in the spring of 2010. According to recent data from the Zhongshan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, by the end of November 2010, the city had exported a total of 62,601 batches of garments and 918 million pieces (including sets), valued at $1.897 billion. This marked an increase of 10.8% year-on-year in the number of batches, 24% in volume, and 16.8% in value, signaling a clear recovery in the garment export sector. The European Union remains the largest export market for Zhongshan's clothing. The city is home to nearly 700 garment export enterprises, with two companies exporting over $50 million worth of goods annually, 36 firms exceeding $10 million, and 250 companies exporting less than $1 million. SMEs continue to dominate the industry, with most relying on processing trade as their main business model. Zhongshan’s exported garments primarily include casual wear, denim, undergarments, wedding dresses, and children's clothing. In the post-crisis period, specialized industrial clusters have emerged in towns like Shaxi, Siu Lam, the Triangle, People's Town, and Dayong, leveraging regional advantages to attract back foreign buyers and boost the entire export industry. According to 2010 export statistics, the EU, U.S., Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan still account for over 80% of Zhongshan’s garment exports. Notably, the EU has overtaken Hong Kong as the top export destination, followed by the U.S. Hong Kong dropped to third, while Australia replaced Japan as the fourth-largest market. In response to growing international demands, especially for children's clothing, the Zhongshan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau launched comprehensive safety inspections starting in 2010. As Wang Yuxiang, head of the textile division, explained, infant clothing used to be overlooked in inspections until the second half of 2009, when tests were introduced for safety features such as ropes and small parts. Many companies remain unaware of the new international safety standards for children's clothing, leading to frequent product rejections. Even when manufacturers follow merchant specifications, they often fail to meet national export requirements, resulting in returns. Wang emphasized that businesses must align with both international standards and buyer requirements, producing according to the highest possible benchmarks to ensure smooth exports.
